Central Park Guided Walk in English or Spanish: Landmarks and Quiet Corners

A shared walk of about two and a quarter hours through the southern half of Central Park with Terradventours, run in English or in Spanish depending on the departure you pick. It suits a first visit: the guide covers the landmarks everyone has seen in films, adds the photo spots and side paths that people tend to walk straight past, and hands out practical tips for the rest of your time in the park. The group gathers at the gilded Maine Monument, raised for the sailors lost on the USS Maine before the Spanish-American War, and heads east past Wollman Rink to The Pond and Gapstow Bridge, where the Midtown skyline sits reflected in the water. You pass the Central Park Zoo from the outside, walk the Literary Walk under its statues of writers and poets, and reach Bethesda Terrace, with its carved staircase and the Angel of the Waters on the fountain. From there the route crosses Bow Bridge and climbs to Belvedere Castle, which today houses a weather station, then drops west to Strawberry Fields and the Imagine mosaic in memory of John Lennon. It ends outside the Dakota, by the 72nd Street subway entrance on the Upper West Side. The whole route is wheelchair and stroller accessible and suits all fitness levels.
