Metropolitan Museum Private Tour for Kids and Families

Two and a half hours at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with a guide who works only for your family. The operator, Pinocchio Tours, specialises in children, and the tour is built for them: stories, small activities and questions aimed at the kids, pitched so the adults stay interested too. The route takes in the Greek and Roman galleries with their marble statues, the arms and armor hall (a reliable hit with children, knights on horseback included), the Egyptian collection and highlights of the American art wing. Modern art is on the list as well, although parts of the museum, the modern and contemporary galleries among them, are currently closed, so the guide may adjust the route on the day. In the Egyptian wing the itinerary includes the Temple of Dendur, a real Egyptian temple dedicated to Isis. It was built around 15 to 10 BC under the emperor Augustus, when Egypt was a Roman province, and it now stands in its own glass-walled gallery. One caveat: the museum does not guarantee that every gallery is open on a given day, and single galleries can close at short notice. The temple was shut for a few days at the end of September 2026 before it reopened. If the kids have their hearts set on it, check the museum's gallery closures page before you go. Private means the group is yours alone, up to 10 people per booking, and children must come with an adult. The guide is a local art historian with experience leading families. Strollers are fine and the route suits all fitness levels. There are three departures: 10:30 am, 2 pm and 5 pm. The museum is open until 9 pm only on Fridays and Saturdays and closes at 5 pm on other days, so the evening slot only works on those two days. The museum is closed on Wednesdays. Every visitor goes through the museum's security check at the entrance, tour or not. The operator's itinerary lists admission to the museum as included. Food, drinks and hotel transfers are not included.
