Intrepid Museum Timed-Entry Ticket at Pier 86

The Intrepid Museum opened in 1982, after the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid was saved and brought to Pier 86 on Manhattan's West Side. It is a nonprofit educational museum, and the carrier is both its home and its biggest exhibit. This ticket is general admission to the Intrepid Museum. What sets the place apart is scale. You are not looking at models in cases: the collection includes the space shuttle Enterprise, a guided missile submarine and a line-up of military aircraft, among them some of the fastest jets ever built. Together they cover a long stretch of American naval and aerospace history, and most of it you can walk around, under or through, which is why it works so well for visitors who find traditional museums a bit static. It suits aviation and space fans first of all, but also families with children who have run out of patience for paintings, and anyone who wants a museum with views of the Hudson River thrown in. Booking works on a timed basis. When you reserve, you pick the time you want to enter the museum, so choose a slot that leaves you enough time to see it properly. Last entry is one hour before closing, and an hour is not much for a ship this size plus the shuttle and the submarine, so an earlier slot is the safer choice. Pier 86 is on the Hudson at West 46th Street, a walk west from Times Square and a completely different day out from the art museums on Fifth Avenue. This ticket is for the Intrepid only and does not include the Met or any other museum in the city.
