New York Historical Museum Entry Ticket (formerly New-York Historical Society)

New York Historical is the city's first museum, founded in 1804, decades before most of the institutions it now shares Central Park with. You may still see it called the New-York Historical Society, the name it carried until its rebrand in 2024; it is the same institution in the same building at 170 Central Park West, on the Upper West Side. It tells more than 400 years of American history through art, documents and objects, and this ticket covers admission to all of its exhibitions. The permanent displays are an odd, rewarding mix. The Gallery of Tiffany Lamps is a room of leaded glass shades lit from within. The Audubon Birds of America Focus Gallery shows John James Audubon's bird studies. There is a re-creation of the Oval Office, and Our Composite Nation: Frederick Douglass' America, which looks at the country through the life and words of Frederick Douglass. Families can also head to the DiMenna Children's History Museum, which is aimed at younger visitors. The auditorium screens short films that are worth building into your visit. New York Story is a 20-minute overview of the city's history and a good place to start if you are new to New York. We Rise looks at how women drove change in the United States and around the world. The museum sits on Central Park West next door to the American Museum of Natural History, and the Met is directly across the park on Fifth Avenue. If you are planning a day of museums on the Upper West Side, this one fits alongside the dinosaurs without much extra walking. This ticket is for New York Historical only and does not include either of its big neighbors. Cancellation is free any time before the date of your visit.
